Tunnelling. A Decade of Progress. GeoDelft 1995-2005
Following years of research, the first bored tunnel in soft soil in the Netherlands, the Tweede Heinenoord tunnel, was completed in 1998. Since then, Dutch engineers have increased their knowledge of soft soil tunnelling, with a significant and important part of this research being carried out by GeoDelft, the Dutch National Institute of Geo-Engineering. This book contains the most important publications by GeoDelft on the subject of soft soil tunnelling, focusing on the period from 1992 to the present, it is divided into four main headings: field measurements; grout behaviour; model testing; and numerical analysis. This impressive overview of the progress made in the Netherlands in soft soil tunnelling research over more than a decade is a valuable resource to those working in soft soil tunnelling worldwide.
Sedimentology
Sedimentology has seen many significant advances and changes over the past 40 years, ranging from facies modelling to sequence stratigraphy; chemostratigraphy to basin analysis; and the integration of studies of physical, chemical and, increasingly, biological processes in the interpretation and prediction of sedimentary environments and products. The subject is becoming ever more interdisciplinary and applied, and now has far more links to other physical sciences. Research and debate are continuing afresh as we move into this new interdisciplinary phase and promise many developments and increased uses of our subject. Now seemed a good time to publish a series of review papers concerning some key current areas of research. We hope that these papers will provide comprehensive starting points for those wishing to become acquainted with an area, act as stimuli for debate, and provide awareness and ideas for future research avenues. No issue of this sort can, of course, ever be truly comprehensive in its coverage: these reviews concern only selected snippets from the wide scope of sedimentology and each has, of necessity, been selective in its own area.

35th IAS Meeting of Sedimentology: Book of Abstracts
The 35th International Meeting of Sedimentology supported by the International Association of Sedimentologists is an annual conference with global impact among the community of sedimentary geologists. Original scheduled at June 2020, the 35 the IAS Meeting of Sedimentology was postponed to June 21-25, 2021, and will be held virtually. The main convenor, Ondřej Bábek, is an employee of Palacký University Olomouc.
Challenges and Opportunities in the Hydrologic Sciences
New research opportunities to advance hydrologic sciences promise a better understanding of the role of water in the Earth system that could help improve human welfare and the health of the environment. Reaching this understanding will require both exploratory research to better understand how the natural environment functions, and problem-driven research, to meet needs such as flood protection, supply of drinking water, irrigation, and water pollution. Collaboration among hydrologists, engineers, and scientists in other disciplines will be central to meeting the interdisciplinary research challenges outline in this report. New technological capabilities in remote sensing, chemical analysis, computation, and hydrologic modeling will help scientists leverage new research opportunities.
Glacial Sedimentary Processes and Products
Associating ice masses with the transport and deposition ofsediments has long formed a central theme in glaciology and glacialgeomorphology. The reason for this focus is clear, in that icemasses are responsible for much of the physical landscape whichcharacterizes the Earth's glaciated regions. This association alsoholds at a variety of scales, for example, from the grain-sizecharacteristics of small-scale moraines to the structuralarchitecture of large-scale, glacigenic sedimentary sequences inboth surface and subaqueous environments.
