Thin-layer chromatography (TLC) is widely used particularly for pharmaceutical and food analysis. While there are a number of books on the qualitative identification of chemical substances by TLC, the unique focus here is on quantitative analysis. The authors describe all steps of the analytical procedure, beginning with the basics and equipment for quantitative TLC followed by sample pretreatment and sample application, development and staining, scanning, and finally statistical and chemometric data evaluation and validation. An important feature is the coverage of effect-directed biological detection methods. Chapters are organized in a modular fashion facilitating the easy location of information about individual procedural steps.
Medicinal Agroecology: Reviews, Case Studies, and Research Methodologies presents information on applications of ‘green therapies’ in restoration towards global sustainability. These practices connect the world of medicinal plants with ecologic farming practice, creating a compassionate socio-political worldview and heartfelt scientific research towards food sovereignty and a healthier future on planet Earth. The book communicates benefits of using plant-based solutions to manage the challenges of unsustainable practices in human healthcare, veterinary medicine, agriculture, forestry, and water management. The contributions introduce advances around plants and their active components to ...
With the 7th Edition of Analytical Chemistry renowned chemists, Purnendu (Sandy) Dasgupta and Kevin Schug, both of the University of Texas Arlington, join the author team. The new edition focuses on more in-depth coverage of the principles and techniques of quantitative analysis and instrumental analysis (aka Analytical Chemistry). The goal of the text is to provide a foundation of the analytical process, tools, and computational methods and resources, and to illustrate with problems that bring realism to the practice and importance of analytical chemistry. It is designed for undergraduate college students majoring in chemistry and in fields related to chemistry.
Refractory organic substances (ROS) are an essential part of the biogeochemical carbon cycle. Wherever there is life on earth, there will also be ROS in the form of poorly biodegradable leftovers of organisms and as a source for new life. Furthermore, it is now beyond doubt that ROS are closely related to the carbon intensity identified as one of the driving forces in the dynamics of green house gas emission, such that ROS play a key role in sustainable development. 'Refractory Organic Substances in the Environment' provides the results of six years of top-priority research, funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). This research program investigated the structure and function of ...

These proceedings include the contributions to the 9th International Workshop on Vision, Modeling and Visualization held in November, 2004 in Stanford, USA. The contributions cover the areas: .Calibration, Registration, Tracking .Image and Video-based Modeling and Rendering .Simulation and Rendering .Geometry Processing .Volume Data Processing and Scientific Visualization The workshop has been organized jointly by members of the Computer Graphics Group at the Max-Planck-Institute in Saarbrücken and by members of Stanford University. VMV 2004 marks the launch of the Max Planck Center for Visual Computing and Communication between Stanford and the German Max Planck Society this year, which opens a new chapter of transatlantic research collaboration in this area. Additionally, VMV 2004 has generously been supported by the Graduate Research Center - 3D Image Analysis and Synthesis, Signal Processing Society IEEE, Sonderforschungsbereich 603, German Informatics Society GI and the Eurographics - European Association for Computer Graphics.
