General Gaston de Sonis (1825-1887) was one of France's most distinguished soldiers of the nineteenth century. He displayed outstanding skill and valour on the battlefields of Algeria, Italy and in the Franco-Prussian war in which he lost a leg, but saved the honour of a defeated nation. An exemplary father of twelve children, he was also a warrior of the Sacred Heart, ennobled by Pope Leo XIII and the cause of whose canonisation is pending at Rome. Lying close to death upon the battlefield of Loigny in 1870 he received signal graces and light from Our Lady. This book tells his inspiring story.
Old friends, new complications - will this be a season to remember? The festive season has begun and Immy Brooks is more than a little distracted. Shillington's, the beloved luxury department store where she works as a personal shopper, is struggling. And her relationship with her best friend (and soon-to-be boss) Lando Shillington has become very complicated. She and Lando spent the night together before he left for Paris. And while he's away, learning the ropes before he takes over the store and hopefully restores it to its former glory, Immy realises their friendship could be something more. She prides herself on knowing what people want, so she's sure he feels the same. Even though he hasn't been in touch . . . When Lando returns with a glamorous new girlfriend and ideas for drastic changes to Shillington's, Immy is devastated. As Christmas Eve approaches and Lando's plans start to take shape, how can she make him see that not everything needs to change - and that maybe happiness has been right in front of him all along?
