Parapsychology in the Twenty-First Century
By now, parapsychology should have become an accepted scientific field of research. However, there is great resistance to parapsychological research despite the strength of evidence in favor of conducting it. This collection of essays focuses on the future of the psychical research field. One essay speculates about a kind of future when psychic phenomena are studied in every university. Another identifies 10 areas of potential difficulty facing parapsychology. Other essays indicate areas where conclusions may need re-examination and refinement and presents possibilities for innovative approaches to future study. Some of the areas of study covered include altered states of consciousness, ESP, Meta-Analysis, the theory of psychopraxia, and sociological and phenomenological issues.

In Latin America, Scandinavian housing experts explained that "housing is too important a commodity to be subjected to the same general market conditions as other goods", but the Americans ridiculed such a stance. The Cold War was fought with bricks and mortar, not just small, hot wars in poor places and the threat of nuclear Armageddon. Privatisation began in Malaysia in the 1940s; in West Germany, Taiwan, Burma and South Korea in the 1950s; India in 1964; Jordan in 1965; Brazil in 1966; Guatemala and Nigeria in 1967; and the Philippines (again) in 1968. In the 1960s, the US granted loans to expand the private housing sectors in Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. They began housing projects in Rhodesia, Zambia and Mali. They moved into Senegal in 1972, Botswana in 1973, Tanzania in 1974 and Kenya in 1975 - all the while spreading the American dream.
A New Approach to Psi
This book critiques conventional parapsychological viewpoints about extrasensory perception (ESP) and psychokinesis (PK), collectively referred to as ’psi’. Since the 1930s, an over-arching view on psi has been built on J. B. Rhine’s research and theories at Duke University. The author argues that there are fundamental problems with the psi paradigm, and offers solutions based largely on Jung’s Theory of Synchronicity, treating the subject matter in a rigorous scientific way. The synchronicity concept speaks to ambiguous psi terminology, the narrow methodological approaches in psi testing, and limited interpretations of psychic experience that do not consider the pivotal role of meaning. This book considers problems with terminology, findings, and the psi construct from a Jungian synchronistic standpoint, which gives credence to issues such as archetypes, meaningfulness, and numinosity. An important new contribution to the understanding of psi, this book will be of interest to practitioners and researchers working in the disciplines of psychology, parapsychology, consciousness studies, and physics, especially quantum mechanics.
Writing in Film Studies, from Professional Practice to Practical Pedagogy
A common refrain heard from instructors in offices across the world is that students have a hard time producing quality written discourse. This is no different in the world of film studies, where many undergraduate students struggle to cogently discuss the films they watch in class. How can film instructors help students become better writers? This book answers this question by, first, uncovering the disciplinary expectations we have for students, and then offering strategies to explicitly teach those expectations in the classroom. This book examines and identifies the disciplinary conventions of professional film studies discourse along with the expectations we have for student writing in undergraduate film courses. What becomes clear from this analysis is that the pedagogical expectations we have for students are aligned with, and shaped by, professional writing in the discipline. It helps to uncover the argument types instructors take for granted and helps those teaching undergraduate students not only to know what those expectations are, but also how to use that knowledge to foster better student writing.
