The centre de cooperation internationale en recherche agronomique pourle developpement, CIRAD, is a center for international cooperation in development-oriented agricultural research, with emphasis on tropial and subtropical zones. Its objectives are: to contribute to the defelopment of these regions through research, experiments, training, and information dissemination; to assist national agricultural research systems, at the request of the host countries; to contribute, through an analysis of future scenarios, to the development of policies related to its mandate areas. CIRAD was formed by the ordinance of 5 june, 1984, through the consolidation of agricultural, veterinary, forestry, and food technology reseahch institute speciallizing on the hot regions.
