“Forty-three years ago the Italian parliament passed a law (law 517 of 1977) that would have boasted Italy for the role of leading country in the area of inclusion. With that choice, Italy accepted to open up to diversity, to embrace it, to work with and for it, questioning the pedagogical community on what were the best practices to face this educational and social challenge. A choice that today bears fruit, in a context where diversity is normal (Canevaro, 2007, Ianes, 2006). A choice that we must defend in the name of all children and their right to education. The present book develops within this framework and is characterized by the desire to give voice to another nuance of diversity, often mistakenly considered as “good difference” and as such, not in need of targeted interventions: the Giftedness.”
Reading the Family Dance
The development in recent years of the intersections between the family and literary study continues to emerge as one of the most productive and illuminating arenas of contemporary critique. In addition to addressing the family dynamic through which a given literary character develops a fully realized sense of self, family systems therapy allows readers to examine the patterns by which characters function in their larger intimate systems, whether those systems be social, institutional, or even global. As the intellectual foundation for the forms of therapy practiced by the majority of contemporary American and European psychotherapists, the study of family systems theory and its intersections with literary works affords readers with an illuminating glimpse into the terminology and processes involved in this dynamic form of critique. Perhaps most significantly, family systems therapy allows critics to consider the distinctly social interactions that characterise our pathways to interpersonal development and selfhood. John V. Encounters with the Real in Contemporary Italian Literature and Cinema
This volume explores the Italian contribution to the current global phenomenon of a “return to reality” by examining the country’s rich cultural production in literature and cinema. The focus is particularly on works from the period spanning the Nineties to the present day which offer alternatives to notions of reality as manufactured by the collusion between the neo-liberal state and the media. The book also discusses Italy’s relationship with its own cultural past by investigating how Italian authors deal with the return of the specter of Neorealism as it haunts the modern artistic imagination in this new epoch of crisis. Furthermore, the volume engages in dialogue with previous works of criticism on contemporary Italian realism, while going beyond them in devoting equal attention to cinema and literature. The resulting interactions will aid the reader in understanding how the critical arts respond to the triumph of hyperrealism in the current era of the virtual spectacle as they seek new ways to promote cognitive transformations and foster ethical interventions.
