Total Colour Management in Textiles

Managing colour from the design stage to the finished product can be a difficult activity as colour perception is subjective and can therefore be inconsistent. Total colour management in textiles covers all aspects of managing colour from the design stage to the final product, ensuring that the designer’s vision is fulfilled in the finished colour. There have been many new developments in the area of colour measurement and colour perception which are discussed. These include discussion of the sensory effect of colour for design and use in product development, and digital colour simulation. Concentrates on managing colour from the design stage to the finished product Provides a comprehensive discussion on the many aspects of textile colour management Written with an industrial applications viewpoint

In his dissertation research on a 19th century Barcelona school of chemistry, Nieto-Galan (U. Autonoma de Barcelona, Bellaterra) was surprised to learn that over half of the primary sources related to experiments with natural dyestuffs. Employing a comparative cross- cultural approach, the author chronicles a little-known but key period (1750-1860) in the history of European industrialization as the dyestuffs industry shifted from the guild craft culture to "artificial transformations" wrought by chemical and mechanical inventions such as new synthetic colorants and calico printing. Illustrations show aspects of textile dyeing (e.g., classifications of dyestuffs; printing equipment, workshops, and patterns). Annotation copyrighted by Book News Inc., Portland, OR.

Colour Forecasting

Colour Forecasting

The colour forecasting process is a major driving force in the fashion and textile industries but is complex, highly intuitive and little understood. This textbook for students of fashion and design discusses the development of the various driving forces of fashion, when colour forecasting began and how it has developed to its present day state. Colour terminology and some of the more subjective tools used by colour forecasters are explained, and their strengths and weaknesses are compared. Also, a model is given of the colour forecasting process and this is discussed in detail. Finally, readers are shown how forecasting methodologies are used to develop 'colour stories'.
