In this volume we present the accepted contributions for the 7th European C- ference on Genetic Programming (EuroGP 2004). The conference took place on 5-7 April 2004 in Portugal at the University of Coimbra, in the Department of Mathematics in Pra ̧ ca Dom Dinis, located on the hill above the old town. EuroGP is a well-established conference and the sole one exclusively de- ted to Genetic Programming. Previous proceedings have all been published by Springer-Verlag in the LNCS series. EuroGP began as an international wor- hop in Paris, France in 1998 (14-15 April, LNCS 1391). Subsequently the wor- hop was held in G ̈ oteborg, Sweden in 1999 (26-27 May, LNCS 1598) and then EuroGP became an ...

The Duplicate

As in most suspense thrillers, the clash between good and evil is prominent. In The Duplicate, you will not only find good fighting evil, but find evil clashing with evil, with great wealth as the cause. Greed is prominent and for this setting I have created massive wealth held by a young husband and wife. Their love for each other is great having learned the hard way in previous marriages. The woman gives birth to a son at the same time a servant on the estate also gives birth to a son. They look alike since they come from the loins of the same father. They look alike but the personalities are quite different, thus the first of the good and evil becomes evident. These two boys grow to manhood and both meet a psychopathic antagonist who is the key to the balance of the story. A plan to switch the half brothers and bring one into prominence and control over all the wealth is set in motion. The plot to mislead is a good one and involves deception, plastic surgery, and murder. Of course there is a love story as as a sub plot and because of that love, good has a chance against evil. As usual, I have placed ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances.==

This book assesses whether humanitarian-intervention exists under customary international law. The main question being whether there is a right to humanitarian-intervention, and if so, according to what criteria, using historical analysis to determine its existence. By combining historical and legal methods running from the nineteenth century Ottoman Empire through to the contemporary Russia-Ukraine War, this book determines that such a right has been extinguished under international law.

Genetic Algorithms and Genetic Programming in Computational Finance

After a decade of development, genetic algorithms and genetic programming have become a widely accepted toolkit for computational finance. Genetic Algorithms and Genetic Programming in Computational Finance is a pioneering volume devoted entirely to a systematic and comprehensive review of this subject. Chapters cover various areas of computational finance, including financial forecasting, trading strategies development, cash flow management, option pricing, portfolio management, volatility modeling, arbitraging, and agent-based simulations of artificial stock markets. Two tutorial chapters are also included to help readers quickly grasp the essence of these tools. Finally, a menu-driven software program, Simple GP, accompanies the volume, which will enable readers without a strong programming background to gain hands-on experience in dealing with much of the technical material introduced in this work.

Genetic Programming

Genetic programming (GP) is a branch of Evolutionary Computing that aims the automatic discovery of programs to solve a given problem. Since its appearance, in the earliest nineties, GP has become one of the most promising paradigms for solving problems in the artificial intelligence field, producing a number of human-competitive results and even patentable new inventions. And, as other areas in Computer Science, GP continues evolving quickly, with new ideas, techniques and applications being constantly proposed. The purpose of this book is to show recent advances in the field of GP, both the development of new theoretical approaches and the emergence of applications that have successfully solved different real world problems. The volume is primarily aimed at postgraduates, researchers and academics, although it is hoped that it may be useful to undergraduates who wish to learn about the leading techniques in GP.

What lessons can we learn from the relationship between policy-makers and schools over the life of the ‘New’ Labour and its predecessor Conservative government? What happened to ‘Education, Education, Education’ as it travelled from political vision to classroom practice? What are the lasting legacies of 13 years of a reforming Labour government? And what are the key messages for a coalition government? These are the questions addressed to the architects of educational reform, their critics and the prophets of better things to come. The 37 interviewees include ministers past and present, journalists, union officials, members of lobby groups and think tanks. Reinventing Schools, Refor...

Genetic Programming IV

Genetic Programming IV: Routine Human-Competitive Machine Intelligence presents the application of GP to a wide variety of problems involving automated synthesis of controllers, circuits, antennas, genetic networks, and metabolic pathways. The book describes fifteen instances where GP has created an entity that either infringes or duplicates the functionality of a previously patented 20th-century invention, six instances where it has done the same with respect to post-2000 patented inventions, two instances where GP has created a patentable new invention, and thirteen other human-competitive results. The book additionally establishes: GP now delivers routine human-competitive machine intelligence GP is an automated invention machine GP can create general solutions to problems in the form of parameterized topologies GP has delivered qualitatively more substantial results in synchrony with the relentless iteration of Moore's Law
