This text examines the histories of three of the major agencies which govern the management of rural Scotland, from their earliest beginnings to their major reorganization during the 1990s. It contains previously unpublished material regarding the agencies' approach to Scottish land management, and provides an analysis of the political implications of work carried out by Scotland's rural agencies.
