Philipp Burbach (ca. 1749-ca. 1812) emigrated from Germany to Allegheny Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, married widow Elizabeth (Ilgengritz) Blickensderfer, and served in the Revolutionary War. Descendants (spelling the surname Poorbaugh or Purbaugh) lived in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, South Dakota, California and elsewhere. Some descendants immigrated to Alberta and elsewhere in Canada.

Jorg or Georg Burckhardt was born in Germany. He married Appolonia Meyer before 1649. They had one child of record. Their great- grandson, Johannes Burcket/Burckhardt (born 1708) and his wife, Katrina Herbert, immigrated to Pennsylvania in 1767, having been preceded in 1740 by their son, Johan Dedrick Burcket. Many descendants remain in Pennsylvania; others reside throughout the United States. Forty-five variant spellings of the surname are given.
