The Proceedings of the 14th International Conference for Nubian Studies are published in the research journal Kush for its 20th issue. Sixty articles are presenting the advances of international research on Middle Nile Valley archaeology and highlighting the richness and importance of Sudanese sites along the different phases of its Prehistory and History i.e. kingdoms of Kush (Kerma, Napata, Meroe), Medieval, Post-Medieval and Modern Periods. Lieu de fixation de l’habitat néolithique et lieu de l’urbanisation du Grand Paris, le plateau de Palaiseau a été marqué au cours de l’Histoire par sa proximité géographique du pouvoir central, qui en a inspiré les initiatives mises en œuvre : rigoles d’alimentation du château de Versailles, domaine agricole et forestier du prince de Condé, grandes propriétés seigneuriales, acquisitions de l’industriel Oberkampf, fortifications de Serré de Rivière après la défaite de 1870, etc. Accueillant depuis la Seconde Guerre Mondiale des établissements scientifiques d’enseignement et de recherche (voir notre plaquette Parcours des établissements scientifiques du plateau), la situation du plateau au cœur du projet du Grand Paris pose la question de l’équilibre entre une urbanisation croissante et une protection des zones naturelles, agricoles et forestières.
