CALL and professionalisation: short papers from EUROCALL 2021
The 2021 EUROCALL conference engaged just under 250 speakers from 40 different countries. Cnam Paris and Sorbonne Université joined forces to host and organise the event despite the challenging context due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Originally programmed to be held on site in the heart of Paris, France, the EUROCALL organising team and executive committee agreed to opt for a blended and then for a fully online conference. The theme of the 2021 EUROCALL conference was “CALL & Professionalisation”. This volume, a selection of 54 short papers by some of the EUROCALL 2021 presenters, offers a combination of research studies as well as practical examples fairly representative of the theme of the conference.

Dominique Martel Family of Louisiana
The Martel's that settled in Louisiana have their family roots with Dominique Martel (b. about 1698) and his wife Marie De La Bretonniere. Their son, Dominique Martel, Jr., grandson Balthazar Bathelemy Martel and great grandson Balthelemy Balthazar Martel (b. 1782) are the ancestors of all the Louisiana Martel families. Included in this book are obituaries, birth and marriage records and some newspaper articles. Moreover, spouse ancestry and photos of some Martel families is also included.

The Marcel Network
Moussa Abadi and Odette Rosenstock, after becoming trapped in Nazi-occupied Paris, formed the Marcel Network, which was able to shelter over five hundred Jewish children in Catholic schools and convents and with Protestant families during World War II.
Assumption Parish
Nestled along Bayou Lafourche just south of the Mississippi River, Assumption Parish boasts a particularly bountiful heritage as an ancient and proud community. Descendants of founding families still live and thrive in the community. They read the Assumption Pioneer, the same weekly journal their ancestors read. Sportsmen enjoy Lake Verret, Bayou Lafourche, and Belle River, just as their parents, grandparents and great-grandparents did. Plentiful natural resources made settlement possible for the fishing communities near Pierre Part. Establishment of the community was strengthened by such resources, especially the lush, rich alluvial soil, which made much of the parish prime property for the burgeoning sugar industry of the 1800s. In fact, sugar is still the primary crop grown in the region. The convenience of commerce transportation along Bayou Lafourche was pivotal in forming Assumption Parish's communities. Residents have enjoyed hunting, fishing, and farming here since the parish's establishment in 1807.
