For countless generations, coastal country in the west Kimberley region of northwest Australia has been the home of Dambeemangaddee Traditional Owners. Barddabardda Wodjenangorddee- We're Telling All of You describes the deep history of this country. In it our senior people describe our country's creation during Lalai and provide recollections of our ancestors' lives. The book also draws on archival sources and information Dambeemangaddee people had shared with early missionaries and anthropologists, while incorporating cultural knowledge our senior people have imparted over the past four decades to the book's compilers and authors. The result is a book that contains an unprecedented level of detail regarding our history, culture and country- the Aboriginal names of some three hundred ancestors, many born in the mid-1800s; their connections to country and to each other; their responses to the arrival of explorers, missionaries and others in our country; and their often heroic efforts to sustain our traditions and care for our country despite outsiders' attempts to regulate their lives and displace them from our lands.

Australian Wildlife Conservancy

Australia is home to some of the most unique wildlife in the world, from the improbable Bilby with its enormous ears, to the Purple-crowned Fairywren with its loyal partnerships, to the highly social Great Desert Skink. But this wildlife is in crisis. In just over two centuries, over 100 plant and animal species have become extinct and every year Australia's threatened species list continues to grow. Australian Wildlife Conservancy's (AWC) mission is to halt these extinctions and turn back this decline; to effectively conserve all Australian animal species and the habitats in which they live. The late Martin Copley AM, founder of AWC, purchased the organisation's first sanctuary in 1991. Thi...

Australian Island Arks

Australia is the custodian of a diverse range of continental and oceanic islands. From Heard and Macquarie in the sub-Antarctic, to temperate Lord Howe and Norfolk, to the tropical Cocos (Keeling) Islands and the islands of the Great Barrier Reef, Australia’s islands contain some of the nation’s most iconic fauna, flora and ecosystems. They are a refuge for over 35% of Australia’s threatened species and for many others declining on mainland Australia. They also have significant cultural value, especially for Indigenous communities, and economic value as centres for tourism. Australian Island Arks presents a compelling case for restoring and managing islands to conserve our natural heri...

Australia has one of the largest inventories of rock art in the world with pictographs and petroglyphs found almost anywhere that has suitable rock surfaces – in rock shelters and caves, on boulders and rock platforms. First Nations people have been marking these places with figurative imagery, abstract designs, stencils and prints for tens of thousands of years, often engaging with earlier rock markings. The art reflects and expresses changing experiences within landscapes over time, spirituality, history, law and lore, as well as relationships between individuals and groups of people, plants, animals, land and Ancestral Beings that are said to have created the world, including some rock ...

Mowanjum 50 Years

Mowanjum Aboriginal Community decided to share their stories and Wandjina traditions in this lively and richly illustrated book. It tells of their journey from their homelands in the north Kimberley to Derby where Worrorra, Ngarinyin and Wunambal peoples established Mowanjum Community in 1956. Historical photographs were selected by senior men and women for the stories they tell, and to rescue them from the anonymity of archives thousands of kilometres from their community. Songs, myths, stories and poems from past. and present community members have been combined with over 100 photographic images of contemporary community members. The book is a commemoration of the strength of spirit of past community members and an expression of confidence in the future.
