Justin Drake enters the world of executive coaching convinced that setting up a practice in his home town of Bristol will bring riches as well as an opportunity to make the world the better place. But as he delves deeper into a world of corporate shenanigans, murky professional associations, zero hours work and encounters with shysters and radical activists, he discovers that his journey is mired in about-turns and betrayals. Thinking he is the only rake in town, he soon finds that is surrounded by a nest of them, all intent on finding a path to free them from the predations of life in contemporary Britain. Seeking a way out of this tangled web, he succeeds only in dragging his family deeper into the mess he has created. With the threat of destitution ever present, they grow to distrust empty offers of redemption, while there is no possible return to respectability. Luckily their sense of the absurd keeps them going, and comedy provides one way out.
