Dan Freeman was born in 1826 in Preble County, Ohio. He married Elizabeth Wilbur in 1853 and they had three children. He married Agnes Suiter in 1865. They had eight children. They settled in Nebraska. He was the first man to file for land under the Homestead Act of 1862. He died in 1908.
