Continuing Actions

We've paid our dues in service to our country-and earned scars we bear with pride. But something is missing from our understanding of these marks. Our scars, both visible and invisible, are not just reminders of the incredible highs and lows of our past. They are much more than that. They are the gateway to our future. Memories of combat do not have to be curses. To those brave enough to face them, they offer the means to move forward in life, not burdened by past experiences but transformed by wisdom paid for in blood, sweat, and tears. These opportunities pose serious challenges rarely mentioned in our training-a knowledge gap that leaves us exposed to needless and predictable injuries. Clo...

The People's Advocate is the autobiography of American Constitutional Trial Attorney Daniel Sheehan. Sheehan traces his personal journey from his working–class roots through Harvard Law School and his initial career in private practice. His early disenchantment led to his return for further study at Harvard Divinity School, and rethinking the nature of his career. Eventually his role as President and Chief Trial Counselor for the famous Washington, D.C.–based Christic Institute would help define his role as America's preeminent cause lawyer. In The People's Advocate, Sheehan details "the inside story" of over a dozen historically significant American legal cases of the 20th Century, all ...

Recent decades have seen a flourishing interest in and speculation about the origins of photography. Spurred by rediscoveries of ‘first’ photographs and proclamations of photography’s death in the digital age, scholars have been rethinking who and what invented the medium. Photography and Its Origins reflects on this interest in photography’s beginnings by reframing it in critical and specifically historiographical terms. How and why do we write about the origins of the medium? Whom or what do we rely on to construct those narratives? What’s at stake in choosing to tell stories of photography’s genesis in one way or another? And what kind of work can those stories do? Edited by Tanya Sheehan and Andrés Mario Zervigón, this collection of 16 original essays, illustrated with 32 colour images, showcases prominent and emerging voices in the field of photography studies. Their research cuts across disciplines and methodologies, shedding new light on old questions about histories and their writing. Photography and Its Origins will serve as a valuable resource for students and scholars in art history, visual and media studies, and the history of science and technology.

'Superb. If you ever read just one history of the Vietnam war, read and admire and celebrate this one ' John le Carré WINNER OF THE NATIONAL BOOK AWARD AND THE PULITZER PRIZE FOR NON-FICTION Outspoken, professional and fearless, Lt. Col. John Paul Vann went to Vietnam in 1962, full of confidence in America's might and right to prevail. He was soon appalled by the South Vietnamese troops' unwillingness to fight, by their random slaughter of civilians and by the arrogance and corruption of the US military. He flouted his supervisors and leaked his sharply pessimistic - and, as it turned out, accurate - assessments to the US press corps in Saigon. Among them was Sheehan, who became fascinated ...

The Dan the Fish Series of children's books is a collaborative effort of many people who dealt with learning and physical issues in school. The books are divided into three parts. The first is a story about an animal that has a problem similar to those that children with disabilities face every day. The second part is a reflection from a child's perspective. The third part is a brief introduction of the adult who helped inspire the story. The purpose of the books is to inspire all children to be who they are. Presented in a creative manner, the Dan the Fish Series hopes to show kids that there are others like them, who felt like they do, and that they too can overcome their challenges and difficulties. These books can also be used as discussion starters in the classroom, for those in teaching programs and anyone working with people with disabilities. Our hope is that this series will bring understanding, encourage compassion, and help to end bullying of all children.
