Classification of Finite Simple Groups, one of the most monumental accomplishments of modern mathematics, was announced in 1983 with the proof completed in 2004. This book is an outgrowth of a Research Symposium on the Modular Representation Theory of Finite Groups, held at the University of Virginia in May 1998. The main themes of this symposium were representations of groups of Lie type in nondefining (or cross) characteristic, and recent developments in block theory. Series of lectures were given by M. Geck, A. Kleshchev and R. Rouquier, and their brief was to present material at the leading edge of research but accessible to graduate students working in the field. This work completely characterizes the behaviour of Cesaro means of any order of the Jacobi polynomials. In particular, pointwise estimates are derived for the Cesaro mean kernel. Complete answers are given for the convergence almost everywhere of partial sums of Cesaro means of functions belonging to the critical L ]p spaces. This characterization is deduced from weak type estimates for the maximal partial sum operator. The methods used are fairly general and should apply to other series of special functions.
Continuous images of ordered continua are investigated. The paper gives various properties of their monotone images and inverse limits of their inverse systems (or sequences) with monotone bonding surjections. Some factorization theorems are provided. Special attention is given to one-dimensional spaces which are continuous images of arcs and, among them, various classes of rim-finite continua. The methods of proofs include cyclic element theory, T-set approximations and null-family decompositions. The paper brings also new properties of cyclic elements and T-sets in locally connected continua, in general.
This memoir consists of two independent papers. In the first, "The symplectic cobordism ring III" the classical Adams spectral sequence is used to study the symplectic cobordism ring [capital Greek]Omega[superscript]* [over] [subscript italic capital]S[subscript italic]p. In the second, "The symplectic Adams Novikov spectral sequence for spheres" we analyze the symplectic Adams-Novikov spectral sequence converging to the stable homotopy groups of spheres.
The first part of Chapter 16 in Ramanujan's second notebook is devoted to q-series. Several of the results obtained by Ramanujan are classical, but many are new. In particular, certain elegant q-continued fraction expansions have not appeared heretofore in print. In the remainder of this chapter, Ramanujan develops the theory of the classical theta-functions in a manner different from his nineteenth century predecessors such as Jacobi. Although many of Ramanujan's discoveries about theta-functions are well-known, several new results are also to be found.

This work presents a study of the foliations of the energy levels of a class of integrable Hamiltonian systems by the sets of constant energy and angular momentum. This includes a classification of the topological bifurcations and a dynamical characterization of the criticalleaves (separatrix surfaces) of the foliation. Llibre and Nunes then consider Hamiltonain perturbations of this class of integrable Hamiltonians and give conditions for the persistence of the separatrix structure of the foliations and for the existence of transversal ejection-collision orbits of the perturbed system. Finally, they consider a class of non-Hamiltonian perturbations of a family of integrable systems of the type studied earlier and prove the persistence of "almost all" the tori and cylinders that foliate the energy levels of the unperturbed system as a consequence of KAM theory.
