Our own body seems to be the object that we know the best for we constantly receive a flow of internal information about it. Yet bodily awareness has attracted little attention in the literature. Mind the Body is the first comprehensive treatment of bodily awareness. Frdrique de Vignemont seeks to answer questions such as: how do I perceive my body? How do I perceive other people's bodies? Can I really feel your pain? What makes me feel this specific body is my own? Why do I care about it? To what extent can I feel an avatar's body as my own? To answer these questions, we need a better understanding of the various aspects of bodily self-awareness, including the spatiality of bodily sensations, their multimodality, their role in social cognition, their relation to action, and to self-defence. This volume combines philosophical analysis with recent experimental results from cognitive science, leading us to question some of our most basic intuitions.
Historia is a vibrant world of technology, always at peace, until one day a mysterious plague makes the land sick, dyeing the rivers red and drying up the fields. A doctor works tirelessly to find a solution, when one night she creates a point of origin for Historia's salvation. Her cure opens the door to a new era of prosperity, but her daughter is seized by an incurable disease. Desperate, she is willing to do anything to ensure her survival. What she ignores, however, is that the code she devises hides dangerous pitfalls. A man's escape from a secret laboratory will open a dark new chapter for Historia. As metropolises fall one after the other, two boys open their eyelids on a mysterious island in the middle of the sea: no man's land. Deprived of memories and purpose, they wander in search of answers, traversing pristine forests and seemingly deserted cities. Hunted, alone, they will face their fears and fragmented memories of the past. The truth that awaits them will disrupt their existences forever. What is one really willing to do to survive?

Bodily awareness is one of the most interesting and enigmatic forms of experience. Our earliest and most pervasive form of conscious experience, it also arguably remains the most private. Bodily awareness has also long played a central role in the study of the mind and self-consciousness, and is fundamental to much current philosophical and psychological research. The Routledge Handbook of Bodily Awareness is an outstanding reference source to this fascinating subject. Comprising over thirty chapters by an international team of contributors, the Handbook is divided into seven parts: Epistemology and Metaphysics Historical Issues Body Representation Sensing the Body Dynamics Pathology Interac...
