Practical Rationality and Human Difference
One of the fundamental aspects of the cultural landscape of the last century has been the revival of philosophical anthropology, in the form of a radical examination of the humanum: an examination that has attempted to meet the primary challenge of an era which, in an increasingly radical way, doubts the very possibility of a semantics of humanism. This book argues that MacIntyrean thought can provide an important contribution towards rethinking a new semantics of humanism, on the basis that MacIntyre's contribution stands up to dialogue with and rational competition from perspectives belonging to rival research traditions. The current volume emerged from the study conference organized in July 2021 by the Department of Letters, Philosophy, Communication Studies at the University of Bergamo, in collaboration with the International Society for MacIntyrean Enquiry.
L’etica nei conflitti della modernità
Questo volume si presenta come una summa del pensiero di Alasdair MacIntyre. Il punto di partenza della riflessione etica è la situazione pratica del soggetto agente, nella quale si rivela la direzionalità verso un fine ultimo, un telos che si incarna parzialmente nell’esercizio delle virtù morali e razionali ed è comprensibile solo narrativamente. A un’analisi fenomenologica più approfondita l’esercizio delle virtù appare come attuazione della legge naturale. Tale esercizio tuttavia si rivela impossibile senza il possesso di un bene comune fondamentale, quello dell’amicizia, la quale fornisce all’agente quella distanza dai propri desideri necessaria per ordinare i beni nelle situazioni particolari. Il desiderio, in altri termini, non è un dato positivo immodificabile ma, in quanto proprium del soggetto, ne rivela l’intima natura appetitiva (e quindi teleologica) e razionale. Un proprium paradossale in quanto necessita dell’altro per potersi determinare in modo non reificante.

Quanto minore è la disponibilità di un orientamento condiviso, di criteri di giudizio comuni, tanto maggiore è la confusione morale, lo spazio per il conflitto e la coercizione. La modernità occidentale degli ultimi tre secoli ha coltivato sistematicamente forme di sviluppo latrici di disorientamento radicale, e lo ha fatto passare per “condizione umana”. Etica come conoscenza
Siamo esseri prevalentemente razionali che agiscono in base a principi e creano un ordine assiologico all’interno di un mondo di per sé indifferente al valore? O siamo esseri anzitutto emotivi che rispondono a una realtà già carica di valori da scoprire affinando la sensibilità assiologica di cui siamo strutturalmente dotati? Qual è il compito dell’etica filosofica? Individuare e giustificare norme e principi che guidino l’azione e la valutazione o ricostruire i diversi accessi emotivo-intuitivi che gli individui, le epoche e le diverse civiltà hanno ai valori, descrivendo i diversi “stili morali” esistenti? I saggi raccolti in questo libro intendono fare emergere tali domande chiamando in causa autori di epoche e tradizioni filosofiche diverse – Kant e il neokantismo, Scheler e la fenomenologia, il non-naturalismo etico e l’attuale dibattito metaetico – con l’obiettivo di mettere a fuoco l’idea dell’etica filosofica come parte dell’impresa teoretico-conoscitiva.
