Secure ICT Service Provisioning for Cloud, Mobile and Beyond
This book describes new methods and measures which enable ICT service providers and large IT departments to provide secure ICT services in an industrialized IT production environment characterized by rigorous specialization, standardization and division of labor along the complete supply chain. This book is also for suppliers playing their role in this industry. Even more important, user organizations are given deep insight in secure IT production which allows them to make the best out of cloud, mobile and beyond. This book presents a new organization and classification scheme being thoroughly modular and hierarchical. It contains a security taxonomy that organizes all aspects of modern industrialized IT production. The approach takes operational requirements into account and focuses on user requirements, thus facing the reality in the market economy. Despite cost pressure, providers must ensure security by exploiting economies of scale to raise the efficiency also with respect to security. Furthermore, this book describes a wealth of security measures derived from real-world challenges in IT production and IT service management.
International Sourcing
Globalization leads to increased fierce competition and companies which do not pursue successful global sourcing within the next five years are probably not able to survive. However, global sourcing projects are highly complex and two-thirds of all sourcing projects in Europe are considered to have failed. A tool of ten steps is elaborated to show how to evaluate the success of sourcing by considering the potentials and risks in an international context. Successful managing of international sourcing, however, does not only imply the primary goal to acquire parts cheaply abroad, but it can be seen as a kind of strategic weapon to create a strong market position and to keep the company successful on the long term.
The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
This book provides expert advice on the practical implementation of the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and systematically analyses its various provisions. Generic Construction of Availability Calculation Models for Safety Loops in Process Industry
A generic approach is proposed in this work that automatically constructs suitable calculation models from a herefore invented formal description language. Two positive effects arise from that: firstly, all inherently and explicitly contained complexity of Safety Instrumented Systems is identified once and condensed into a set of transformation formulas generating the actual calculation models. Secondly, providing a flexible and extensive description language encourages smart and quick engineering processes, enables for non-standard solutions, and relieves safety engineers from the challenge of actually deriving explicit calculation models by hand. A suitable new type of discrete time multiphase markov model is chosen as mathematical basis, and comes along with the required solver algorithms for retrieving the desired unavailability characteristics: the probability of failure on demand (PFD), and the probability of fail-safe (PFS), i.e. an operational unavailability as economical indicator.
