Polar Stroke

David Aston was a good accountant and into his thirties. He knew that professionally he had done well but his physical acts were virtually non-existent. He was a literal eight stone weakling. He decided to something about it, but he didn't know what. After a lot of time looking at the various options he decided he would train up and walk to the Magnetic North Pole. Despite the incredible obstacles he faced he managed to defy the odds and walked there. A few years later he was driving his car when he had a car crash and his world turned around in a second. He was in hospital with a relatively minor jaw injury when all of a sudden he had a stroke and he had become physically and mentally impaired. He could no longer work as an accountant. He now knew that he had to defy the odds again and start to combat the stroke. He remembered his North Pole trip and took heart from this and a few of the tricks he learnt from the North Pole he started using them again but in a more serious battle against a stroke. This book tells of his fights, firstly in doing the impossible and walking to the North Pole, but secondly in fighting one of natures worst diseases.

The importance of pollinator species to man's survival and the functioning of the world's ecosystems is recognised. Environmental and other stressors have taken their toll on many pollinator species and their abundance. The European Honey bee (Apis mellifera) and man have had a long mutually beneficial relationship and it is vital that this continues. Like all organisms, honey bees need food and shelter to ensure their survival and ability to thrive. A key factor in achieving this is the understanding of the role of good nutrition in honey bee biology. This book considers the role of good nutrition for honey bees in the British Isles and the implications of these requirements for beekeepers ...

Waverley is a small cat with a big miaow and he lives with Mr and Mrs Turner and their son Jonathan at number 10, Marten's Drive. Waverley likes the house at number 10, Marten's Drive because it has lots of good places to sleep and a back garden that seems to go on forever. Beyond the wooden fence at the bottom of the garden there is a children's playground, green fields, and then the woods. All day long Waverley snoozes in the sunny spots around the house. But at night he goes adventuring. Beautifully illustrated with watercolours by Martin Jones, David Aston's first story about Waverley, the small cat with a big miaow, is sure to delight younger readers.

If your retirement dream is becoming a nightmare because of the big financial questions that keep you awake, then this is the book for you. We all dream about retirement, but surveys show that most Canadians are very anxious about it. How big a nest egg will I need? How long will I have to work? How much can I afford to draw from my portfolio every year? What's the financial impact of taking CPP before age 65? Can I achieve my retirement dreams given my financial reality? So many questions and . . . too many answers. The media and financial institutions bombard us with information and advice, but much of it is conflicting and confusing, and some of it is thinly disguised marketing spin and product pitches. It's hard to make sense of it all, to see how it relates to your situation, and to see your own complete financial picture in all the fragmented advice. Written by an independent journalist with no business interests to promote, this book is your frank and trusted guide to the confusing world of retirement planning.
