This Must Be the Place

A fascinating glimpse behind the big suits and deadpan looks to the heart and soul of a band that made it big by playing it cool With their minimalist beats, sophisticated lyrics, and stoic mien, the Talking Heads were indisputably one of the most influential and intriguing bands of their time. Rising from the ashes of punk and the smoldering embers of the disco inferno, they effectively straddled the boundaries between critical and commercial success as few other groups did, with music you could deconstruct and dance to at the same time. Culture critic David Bowman tells the fascinating story of how this brain trust of talented musicians turned pop music on its head. From the band’s inception at the Rhode Island School of Design to their first big gig opening for the Ramones at CBGB, from their prominence in the worlds of art and fashion to the clash of egos and ideals that left them angry, jealous, and ready to call it quits, Bowman closely chronicles the rise and fall of a stunningly original and gloriously dysfunctional rock 'n' roll band that stayed together longer than anyone thought possible, and left a legacy that influences artists to this day.

Set in the 1950's, this epic, Warholian novel presents a brilliant and wholly original take on the years leading up to the Kennedy assassination. Where were you when you first heard President Kennedy had been shot? This is a question most people can answer, even if the answer is "I wasn't born yet." In this epic novel, David Bowman makes the strong case that the shooting on November 22nd, 1963 was the major, defining turning point that catapulted the world into an entirely new stratosphere. It was the second big bang. In this hilarious, lightning-fast historical novel, Bowman follows the most famous couples of the decade as their lives are torn apart by post-war's new normal. We see Lucille ...

This small volume, written by David B. Bowman, her companion of 62 years, is presented as a tribute to Maria Dianne Bowman. Surely, too, it is an expression of the love shared and a cry in the night that she is no longer alongside. Through the years family and friends came to know her through one or another window. These pages open various apertures on her life and activity, and will offer new vistas for nearly every reader. May these brief chapters and a dozen photographs enable family, friends and others to further recognize Dianne's continuing presence and deepen appreciation for the faith in God and love toward others she embodied and expressed throughout her life. David Bowman is the author of two autobiographical books: Saints Along the Way: Women and Men Who Have Influenced Me (Bookstand Publishing, 2015), and Parish, the Thought: A Memoir in Ministry (Wipf and Stock, 2018). He also wrote a study in theology and literature: Faith Rising - Between the Lines: Intimations of Faith Embedded in Modern Fiction (Wipf and Stock, 2021). He holds a Ph.D. from Glasgow University, Scotland. With Dianne at his side, he devoted his adult life to parish ministry.

The trade paperback edition of David Bowman's prizewinning first novel, Let the Dog Drive, has developed a cult following. Now Bowman's exuberantly praised second novel -- a hard-boiled comedy about love, abduction, and child care, set in a future where electricity has disappeared and fertility is on the wane, but human passions are as messy as ever -- is also in trade paperback.

Who?s Your Hero? is ideal for teaching children to love the Book of Mormon!?What I love is the simple values that are taught through this book in a way that my three-year-old son understands and is really able to apply them. I cannot wait for Volume 2 to come out!??Sara from the Internet? My seven-year-old reads it alone and my five-year-old always wants it read again and again. I can?t think of better heroes for them, and Bowman makes these familiar names and people come to life with everyday examples of how to apply their teachings to today?s life.??Dixie from the Internet
