New Trends in Turkish Foreign Affairs
With the present book, we intend to give an account of Turkish foreign policy written by Turkish scientists and decision-makers. Up to now, countless treatises on the foreign policy of the Republic of Turkey have been published within the Anglo-American language area. The specialized literature is particularly extensive in the domain of Turkish European policy as well as on the Europeans’ foreign policy towards Turkey and on security and defense policy. We are primarily interested in the self-perception of Turkish decision-makers and advisors who, as the scientific and bureaucratic elite, have a significant influence on the conception of Turkish foreign policy. We are interested in the elites’ priorities in shaping the country’s foreign policy. We hope that readers will be able to read the ideas, hopes, and fears between the lines of the contributions in order to form ideas for themselves. We also intend to bring the Turkish perspective to sectors outside the university. Moreover, we intend to draw an outline of scientific literature by means of which readers may immerse themselves in the subject.
Hamlet's Age and the Earl of Southampton
Hamlet’s Age and the Earl of Southampton investigates the exact age of the eponymous prince in Shakespeare’s play, a topic which has been subject to frequent debates over the past 239 years. Whether Hamlet is sixteen, eighteen or, as the Gravedigger states in Act V, thirty years old may seem irrelevant to performances of the play (since actors tackling the part are very rarely in their teens), but it still tends to influence our general view of the Danish prince. Romantic criticism in the early 19th century insisted on a heroic and supremely intelligent teenage prince, and, to a large extent, this view of Hamlet still prevails. Whether Shakespeare meant his protagonist to be the irreproachable prince of Romantic fancy, however, remains a question. Numerous scholars have found references to the Earl of Essex in Hamlet, but Henry Wriothesley, the third Earl of Southampton, once indisputably Shakespeare’s patron, is a far more likely candidate. If Shakespeare had Southampton in mind when writing his Danish tragedy, this would account for the Gravedigger’s estimate of Hamlet’s age in Act V and explain several things that have puzzled us over the last four centuries.

On the Historical Development of the Liturgy
In 1921, Anton Baumstark delivered two lectures on the development of the Roman Rite to a gathering at the Abbey of Maria Laach. Abbot Ildefons Herwegen offered to publish those lectures, but Baumstark decided to write a book on the topic instead, which was published two years later as On the Historical Development of the Liturgy. It would be another sixteen years before he produced Comparative Liturgy, for which he is better known. Together the two books lay out Baumstark's liturgical methodology.
