The David R. Hill photographs consist primarily of glass plate negatives. The photographs were taken mostly by David R. Hill at the beginning of the 20th century. The collection documents the Hill family, especially Mary Elizabeth Hill, the daughter of the photographer. The photographs were taken in and around family homes in Centerville, Pa., the Knoxville area of Pittsburgh Pa. and Mount Lebanon Pa. Of particular interest is the subject matter. Many of the photographs feature the family in a more informal matter including several candid photographs illustrating family and home life of the middle class at the turn of the twentieth century.
