Methods in Protein Sequence Analysis contains an intensely prac tical account of all the new methodology available to scientists carrying out protein and peptide sequencing studies. Many of the striking advances in fields as diverse as immunology, cell motility, and neurochemistry have in fact been fueled by our ever more powerful ability to determine the sequences and structures of key proteins and peptides. It is our hope that the rich array of tech niques and methods for sequencing proteins discussed in this volume-methods that generate much of the information crucial to progress in modern biology-will now become accessible to all who can benefit from them. The papers of the present volum...
On the cutting edge of medical diagnostics, plasma proteomics promises to generate a new wave of technologies to help identify many different diseases and disease risks. Plasma and serum are the preferred non-invasive specimens to test normal individuals, at-risk groups, and patients for protein biomarkers discovered and validated to reflect physiological, pathological, and pharmacological phenotypes. These specimens present enormous challenges due to extreme complexity, huge dynamic range in protein concentrations, non-standardized methods of sample processing, and intra- and inter-individual variation from genetics, diet, smoking, hormones, and other sources. This book presents the major findings from the collaborative Plasma Proteome Project organized by the international Human Proteome Organization (HUPO). The chapters are drawn from a larger set of publications in the journal PROTEOMICS. This book provides a valuable foundation for development and applications of proteomics.
The first edition of Protein Purification Protocols (1996), edited by Professor Shawn Doonan, rapidly became very successful. Professor Doonan achieved his aims of p- ducing a list of protocols that were invaluable to newcomers in protein purification and of significant benefit to established practitioners. Each chapter was written by an ex- rienced expert in the field. In the intervening time, a number of advances have w- ranted a second edition. However, in attempting to encompass the recent developments in several areas, the intention has been to expand on the original format, retaining the concepts that made the initial edition so successful. This is reflected in the structure of this se...
Emphasizing effective, state-of-the art methodology and written by recognized experts in the field, the Handbook of Food Analytical Chemistry is an indispensable reference for food scientists and technologists to enable successful analysis. * Provides detailed reports on experimental procedures * Includes sections on background theory and troubleshooting * Emphasizes effective, state-of-the art methodology, written by recognized experts in the field * Includes detailed instructions with annotated advisory comments, key references with annotation, time considerations and anticipated results
Current Research in Protein Chemistry: Techniques, Structure, and Function focuses on the techniques and methods used for determining the structure and function of proteins. Topics covered range from protein folding and stability to catalysis by chimeric proteins, amino acid and peptide analysis, applications of mass spectrometry to peptide and protein analysis, and protein sequencing. This book is divided into six sections encompassing 55 chapters. The first chapter describes a novel method for protein hydrolysis by means of microwave irradiation that uses Teflon-Pyrex tubes. This is followed by a discussion of the application of high performance capillary electrophoresis to the analysis of...
This outstanding text focuses on providing professionals and students working in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology field with the background necessary for developing of a product or process and with the necessary rigor required by federal regulatory agencies in the pharmaceutical industry. The material will enable teachers, lecturers and professors in biotechnology to prepare courses on basic concepts and applications for the purification of biotechnological products of industrial interest. These can be applied in practice, for example, with projects on purification development on an industrial scale or useful unit operations for the development of bioproducts of commercial interest.
