A small valleys town in South Wales makes global headlines when staff and pupils at a local school have a terrifying encounter with the unknown. Soon after, there are sightings of strange objects in the sky and a sinister silver suited being lurking on the hillsides, while shopping trolleys and sheep vanish without a trace. As events escalate, fear, panic and paranoia spread, and supplies of tin foil run low. Journalist, Geraint Price, would rather investigate alleged links between a failed multi-million redevelopment project and claims of council corruption than what he thinks are the Òravings of a bunch of loony crackpots!Ó But Price and his colleagues are destined to become embroiled in the mystery of The Ffh0/00gdiwedd Thing...

Religious Studies in Contemporary China Collection, Taoism gathers together English translations of seventeen articles originally published in the People’s Republic of China between 1947 and 2006, and republished together in 2008 as part of an edited volume of representative works in PRC Taoist studies. While only part of the volume edited by Professor Mou was selected for translation in the present project, the aim remains the same: showcasing representative works of Taoist studies in mainland China, including early articles that were widely influential although they may now be superseded in some aspects by more recent research. Most of the major scholars of Taoist studies in the PRC are represented in this anthology, and many of them have never had any of their work translated into any Western language before; it is hoped that the present volume will draw readers to their scholarship and inspire them to read their books and articles in Chinese.

Not so very long ago, in the bottom right-hand corner of Wales, there was a valley. It wasn't a well known or important valley, but it was called The Seren Valley and it bridged the dimensional frontiers between realities and beyond. Some weird and wonderful characters lived in the valley, including Wandering Dai, The Mop Lady, Mad Mike, Dodgy Dick and the inimitable Mr O.L.D Mann. Now, let's go back for a final visit to meet them again in this collection of short stories, ghostly tales and other oddities from the archives of the valley's local newspaper, The Ffhâgdiwedd and District Inquirer.

Pirates and Publishers

A detailed historical look at how copyright was negotiated and protected by authors, publishers, and the state in late imperial and modern China In Pirates and Publishers, Fei-Hsien Wang reveals the unknown social and cultural history of copyright in China from the 1890s through the 1950s, a time of profound sociopolitical changes. Wang draws on a vast range of previously underutilized archival sources to show how copyright was received, appropriated, and practiced in China, within and beyond the legal institutions of the state. Contrary to common belief, copyright was not a problematic doctrine simply imposed on China by foreign powers with little regard for Chinese cultural and social trad...

The Digital Double Bind

The Middle East's digital turn has renewed hopes of socio-economic development and political change across the region, but it is also marked by stark contradictions and historical tensions. In this book, Mohamed Zayani and Joe F. Khalil contend that the region is caught in a digital double bind in which the same conditions that drive the state, market, and public immersion in the digital also inhibit change and perpetuate stasis. The Digital Double Bind offers a path-breaking analysis of how the Middle East negotiates its relation to the digital and provides a roadmap for a critical engagement with technology and change in the Global South.

Sex at Dawn

In this controversial, thought-provoking, and brilliant book, renegade thinkers Christopher Ryan and Cacilda JethÁ debunk almost everything we “know” about sex, weaving together convergent, frequently overlooked evidence from anthropology, archaeology, primatology, anatomy, and psychosexuality to show how far from human nature monogamy really is. In Sex at Dawn, the authors expose the ancient roots of human sexuality while pointing toward a more optimistic future illuminated by our innate capacities for love, cooperation, and generosity.
