Aquaculture - culture of aquatic organisms including aquatic vegetations under controlled conditions which are now recognized as a viable and profitable farming or enterprise worldwide. As aquaculture technology has evolved, the push toward higher yields and faster growth has involved the enhancement or replacement of natural foods with prepared diets. In many aquaculture operations today, feed accounts for more than a half of the variable operating cost. Therefore, knowledge of fish nutrition and practical feeding of fish is essential for successful aquaculture. This teaching manual aims for a better understanding of fish nutrition and feed technology. There are six major areas of interest in which 25 chapters are included. This teaching manual is a guide for anyone interested in fish nutrition and feed technology areas and student communities in particular.

An introduction to regional oceanography for students in all fields of marine sciences. The two core principles are the use of the most modern data base for all maps of the regional distribution of properties, and discussion of all observed features within a frame of reference developed from ocean dynamics, rather than based on the simple geographical approach. Natural resources which are the backbones of the economic development of a nation are fast depleting. Anthropogenic activities as well as natural catastrophes have threatened the stock of these resources for future generation. Though, potential benefits of these resources are known to mankind, ignorance or carelessness of management of these resources has put them at stake. Spectacular advances have been made in management of our resources in the environment. The present book envisages the trends of research work, approaches and scientific methods of practices adapted using various tools and techniques for a healthy environment. It emphasizes on various facets and dimensions of environmental management. It provides an insight to environmental management which could help to evolve the strategies for better management of our environment. This book will be of benefit to both present and future students, researchers and teachers who are associated with studies on issues of environmental management.
Taxonomy of Shellfish is one of the most unique courses in Fisheries Science in view of its importance and implications in diversity. The shellfish includes two highly diversified phyla i.e. Arthropoda and Mollusca which show enormous diversity in their morphology, in the habitats they occupy and in their biology. The correct identification of a candidate species of shellfish is very important for successful aquaculture practices and also for their conservation and management. Further, this book entitled deals with systematic identification of commercially important shellfish species highlighting the important taxonomic characteristics. This book has been written to meet the needs of not only fisheries science students, but also teachers and researchers who need to deal with shellfishes. Written in a textbook form, this book encompasses the knowledge of preservation and cataloguing, classification and identification of the phyla Arthropoda and Molllusca. If this book could help and guide the students and researchers, we shall feel amply rewarded. The book contains 15 chapters that have been explained very clearly with numerous illustrative examples, leaving no scope for confusion.
Advances in Fish and Wildlife Ecology and Biology Vol 3 is a collection of original research paper. The volume is divided into two sections viz., Fish and Limnology & Wildlife. The section on fish and limnology includes papers on fish germplasm, fish habitat alteration, teratology, ecology and reproductive plasticity of cichlid fishes, influence of food on growth, status of various fish species in protected areas, diel variation in physico-chemical parameters of high altitude zooplankton, aquatic pollution management, histomorphology of fish gonads and studies on fish parasites. A paper on issues related to gender in fisheries sector has also been included in this section in view of its impo...
Increasing attentions are now being paid towards soil and water quality management of different fish culture systems, especially in fish ponds, with a view to improving their productivity potentials. This is usually achieved through monitoring of soil and water properties of the ecosystem at various stages. Adequate knowledge about different analytical procedures for assessment of these properties are the basic pre-requisites for these exercise. Here are numbers of good publications on chemical analysis of fish pond soil and water and most of them deal with the subject in very comprehensive manner. Although such literatures are highly useful for the researchers and other persons involved in studies on chemistry of the aquatic ecosystems, yet much of the knowledge are usually not so essential for most of the workers aged in fisheries development without much background in chemistry.
