Demokratisierung durch die EU
Das Buch analysiert den Zusammenhang zwischen Erweiterungs- und Demokratisierungspolitik der Europäischen Union. Dazu wird vergleichend sowohl die Süd- als auch die Osterweiterung fokussiert. Die Studie bildet zwei Schwerpunkte: Zunächst wird ein Konzept zur Analyse externer Faktoren bei Demokratisierungsprozessen entwickelt. Auf dieser Grundlage erfolgt die systematische Untersuchung des EU-Einflusses und seiner Wechselwirkung bei einer modellhaft verlaufenen (Spanien) und einer verzögerten Demokratisierung (Slowakei). Anhand der eingesetzten Strategien, Instrumente und deren Ergebnissen wird das Demokratisierungspotenzial der EU gezeigt.
