Relations of Power
Women's networks – their relations with other women, men, objects and place – were a source of power in various European and neighbouring regions throughout the Middle Ages. This interdisciplinary volume considers how women's networks, and particularly women's direct and indirect relationships to other women, constituted and shaped power from roughly 300 to 1700 AD. The essays in this collection juxtapose scholarship from the fields of archaeology, art history, literature, history and religious studies, drawing on a wide variety of source types. Their aim is to highlight not only the importance of networks in understanding medieval women's power but also the different ways these networks are represented in medieval sources and can be approached today. This volume reveals how women's networks were widespread and instrumental in shaping political, familial and spiritual legacies.
Women and Monastic Reform in the Medieval West, C. 1000 - 1500
New approaches to understanding religious women's involvement in monastic reform, demonstrating how women's experiences were more ambiguous and multi-layered than previously assumed. Over the last two decades, scholarship has presented a more nuanced view of women's attitude to and agency in medieval monastic reform, challenging the idea that they were, by and large, unwilling to accept or were necessarily hostile towards reform initiatives. En esta publicación se recogen los trabajos presentados en el XXI Congreso Nacional de Historia del Arte (CEHA), celebrado en el Palacio de la Magdalena de Santander entre los días 20 al 23 de septiembre de 2016. El eje vertebrador de dicho congreso giró en torno a una temática a la vez monográfica y transversal: LA FORMACIÓN ARTÍSTICA. Se aborda este objetivo desde la doble perspectiva que plantean los dos protagonistas principales del diálogo artístico (el creador y el espectador), pasando por el historiador del arte como mediador entre ambos. Empleando este hilo conductor, se traza el rico panorama investigador nacional, tratando de reflejar las principales orientaciones metodológicas de la disciplina, así como las líneas de trabajo más consolidadas y las emergentes. The twenty-five papers in this volume arise from a conference jointly organised by the British Archaeological Association and the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya in Barcelona. España a finales de la Edad Media. 2. Sociedad.
El volumen primero de España a finales de la Edad Media (2017) ya trató sobre algunos marcos y fundamentos del orden social como son las realidades geográficas, la población y, en especial, el sistema económico y su funcionamiento, incluyendo una aproximación a los grupos sociales que intervenían en la producción y distribución de bienes. Este segundo volumen tiene como objeto estudiar el conjunto de la estructura social, su dinámica y las relaciones que se establecen en el seno de la sociedad, en diversos ámbitos y modalidades: Iglesia, nobleza y señoríos, campesinos, ciudades y municipios, grupos marginales, judíos, mudéjares. El tiempo histórico a considerar discurre desde mediados del siglo XIII hasta comienzos del XVI y, como e el primer volumen, se ofrece una amplia guía bibliográfica clasificada por materias para dar a conocer el estado de las investigaciones y gran parte de las publicaciones especializadas.
