The series of anthologies: These Human Shores, of which this book is the first, will explore the nature of life from birth to death. The theme of this book was chosen by our founder, Ron Wiseman. As editor of These Human Shores, he has creatively and wisely chosen poems that will not only celebrate life, but will reawaken the feelings we all have about the wonder and splendor of living. The fountains of words that are displayed upon these pages speak from the lives of brilliant poets from all over the world. From wise words to enchanting tales and funny stories of babyhood, through the vast array of stories and anecdotes of toddlerhood, this book describes the beginning of life from many perspectives, then it becomes much more reflective as we bring you the greatest treasures of life: "Memories through sessions of sweet silent thought". We laugh, we cry, we smile, we sigh and most of all we affirm life itself. This is life, this is poetry, this is love.

Although food has been part of motion pictures since the silent era, for the most part it has been treated with about as much respect as movie extras: it's always been there on the screen but seldom noticed. For the most part filmmakers have settled on three basic ways to treat food: as a prop in which the food is usually obscured from sight or ignored by the actors; as a transition device to compress time and help advance the plot; as a symbol or metaphor, or in some other meaningful way, to make a dramatic point or to reveal an aspect of an actor's character, mood or thought process. This hugely expanded and revised edition details 400 food scenes, in addition to the 400 films reviewed for the first edition, and an introduction tracing the technical, artistic and cultural forces that contributed to the emergence of food films as a new genre--originated by such films as Tampopo, Babette's Feast and more recently by films like Mostly Martha, No Reservations and Ratatouille. A filmography is included as an appendix.

This diary is meant as a poetry journal, to record ideas or full-blown poems. Inspiration is everywhere for anyone who can observe: at home, at work, on the road, in leisure or busy-ness, in colleagues, neighbours, strangers or self. There is poetry in every landscape, in every act of life. The daily planning areas can be used for appointments and meetings, school or work schedules, with your poetic notes at the bottom. You may also use the full space to journal and add a haiku to illustrate your day.
