This is a new edition of one of the most famous boatbuilding manuals of all time. It is essentially a large format book of plans. The central text of the original 1895 edition, which describes the plans, is reprinted in multicolumn arrangement. New footnotes on figures in the text have been added as an extended appendix, giving the modern reader an understanding of the materials, methods and plans of boatbuilding at the turn of the century. Each of the 130 plans has been printed with annotations by John Leather to provide the reader with a succinct explanation of plans now nearly 100 years old. As a finishing touch, John Leather also includes an introduction and biography of the famous but little-researched Dixon Kemp.
