How do you want to run - a marathon in under four hours or at the age of 90? To take Arne Haase as a role model: Germany's oldest marathon runner is still doing 20 kilometers twice a week at the age of 90. And it doesn't have to be that sporty. But wouldn't the Haase model be a nice vision of you in your old days, being “trapped” in the body of a 45-year-old? For millions of people, regular exercise is part of their lives. But almost all of us run the wrong way. To stay mobile from now until old age, we can make up our minds for a fundamental change. What is Enlightenment? "Enlightenment is the exit of humans from their self-inflicted dependence." Immanuel Kant lived in the Age of Enlightenment. The church and the state dictated how people should live and think. Many poets and thinkers rebelled against this. Scientists had already shown the church many mistakes. Poets like Voltaire and thinkers like Rousseau said: people should not believe everything. Then they are not free. They enlightened people about their own power: their intellect and their reason. Immanuel Kant wrote many great works. Above all the "Critique of Pure Reason". He wanted to "bring the mind to reason". From then on, he was known as the greatest Enlightenment philosoph...
Within the Juan de Fuca fault, monsters stir. A coastal town nestled just outside Seattle, Everett is a picture-perfect paradise, but the Indigenous myths tell of when the darkness came out of the ocean and killed everything, the world cleansed and begun anew. An unusual specimen washed up on the shore has Professors Charlie Wice and Carol Wheatley buzzing with excitement, but what the ocean has spat out is far more dangerous than either could imagine. As the darkness slithers closer, and the deaths start to mount, the residents of Everett and St Aloysius Island are locked in a battle against an enemy as implacable as they are numerous. As the earth shakes once again, another battle looms on the horizon – fast flowing and deadly. Who will survive when the ocean bares its fangs?

This study analyzes costs and benefits related to participation from the perspective of women. Based on two samples in Chad and in Pakistan, this study employs quantitative and qualitative approaches. Social capital as well as the wealth status are identified as the most important determinants of participation of women. The empowerment of women, as well as an improved social network, belong to the most important benefits of participation. The reduction and mitigation of risk constitute a significant motivation to participate. Moral hazard and freeriding, both frequently described in the theoretical literature as typical problems of collective action, are encountered. However, these problems do not seem to enter the private cost-benefit calculation of individuals. This is more determined by time as well as financial constraints.
