On Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary in October 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared his vision for an Open-Defecation-Free India. This book talks about the journey of an IAS officer who understood and leveraged the potential of the government, community and citizens through cleanliness. The true meaning of Swachh Bharat was seen as village after village transformed into a cleaner hub. Citizens took ownership to keep their village Open Defecation Free (ODF) through activities such as 'Triggering' and 'Gandhigiri'. The struggles and triumphs in fulfilling the dream of ODF Gujarat are passionately narrated here. The book relates the tale of a renewed satyagraha through Swachhagraha. As we see a mother leading her toddler to squat on the toilet, we are sure the 'luxury' of toilet will become a 'necessity'.
Graphic novel based on Gulāmagirī by Jotīrāva Govindarāva Phule.
In the present volume, for the first time, a connected history of the Chauhans, from their beginnings in Bhrgukachchha in eight century A.D. to the time of Ala-ud-din Khalji and Hammira in the fourteenth century has been presented. The author has shown that the Agnikula myth goes back to the Ramayana and is, in fact, traditional to Aryan Hindus. He also establishes conclusively that contrary to the common belief that India fell an easy prey to Muslim invaders, and the resistance of the Hindu rulers broke down after the defeat of Prthviraja, the descendants of the Chauhan Emperor, even after they lost Ajmer, continued to fight with determination for two hundred years. Considerable new light i...

‘Genealogy, Archive, Image’ addresses the ways in which history and tradition are ‘reinvented’ through text, memory and painting. It examines the making of dynastic history in the kingdom of Jhalavad, situated in Gujarat, western India, over the longue durée, from the eleventh to twentieth centuries. The essays critique a collection of contemporary miniature paintings, which chart the dynastic history of Jhalavad’s rulers and the textual and ethnographic archive upon which they are based. A multidisciplinary work, it crosses the boundaries of history, anthropology, folklore and mythology, gender, musicology, literary studies, and visual, film and digital media. The essays draw upon a variety of voices, spanning various religious and ethnic communities, including Hindus, Muslims, Jains, Parsees and Siddhi Africans, and caste identities, such as that of the bard, ballad singer, king, priest, court chronicler, soldier, mason and drummer.
