A obra de referência de Mészáros é A educação Para Além do Capital, lançada a público em 2005. Por ser uma obra bastante atual, produziu significativos impactos no campo educacional. No seu prefácio da obra, Emir Sader enfatizou que "o objetivo central dos que lutam contra a sociedade mercantil, a alienação e a intolerância é a emancipação humana" (2008. p. 12). Neste processo, a educação poderia ser um instrumento essencial para a mudança, mas é apropriada pelo capital e usada para a manutenção da sociedade de classes. Todavia, essa apropriação não impede que os trabalhadores também possam se apropriar da educação como um dos instrumentos fundamentais para a emancipação.
