My Journey to Bob Dole

Earl Boutell joined the US Navy after three semesters of college. After putting the USS Seattle (AOE-3) into commission, he received new orders for embassy/advisor duty. After attending seventeen weeks of advisor training, he wrote to Senator Bob Dole requesting special leave time to be with his wife for the birth of their first child, just prior to being deployed to Vietnam as an advisor to the South Vietnamese river assault boats. The navy considered the advisor job as “high risk of capture.” He left for his highly hazardous Vietnam duty as his daughter turned six days old. Living on the Vietnamese economy, coming under enemy attacks, and having contact with other American sailors only via radio were a few of the hardships that advisors endured while training the Vietnamese how to operate and maintain the river assault boats in wartime conditions. The goal became to thank Senator Dole in person for arranging the leave for the birth of his daughter after leaving Vietnam injured.

Only by the Hand of God

Only by the Hand of God By H J (Duke) Petmecky CW03 USN, Retired and Earl Boutell “This is a war story; a tale that takes you along with me through 18 months in the jungles, rivers, canals, and military facilities in Viet Nam. It was a period of conflict in which I was exposed to, not only the risk of death, but to the powerful influence of my Creator.” Harrowing, exciting and sorrowful by turns, Only by the Hand of God is a powerful story of loss and redemption. Written with a sure hand full of vigor and also a touch of rough humor by H J (Duke) Petmecky and his co-author Earl Boutell, this book offers its readers a graphic, colorful, life-changing experience.

Squires, Knights, Barons, Kings

Many who have a passing interest in English history know of the kings: the Lancastrian usurper, Henry IV; the great warrior-king, Henry V; and the monkish monarch, Henry VI. Some also know of the fair Yorkist king, Edward IV, and his fated son, Edward V - the Prince in the Tower. Many more know of the Yorkist usurper, Richard III, and his Tudor nemesis, the last Lancastrian claimant, Henry VII. But what about the other key individuals of fifteenth century England? Most have heard of the "Kingmaker", even if they forget that he was Sir Richard de Neville, Earl of Warwick. But who was Little Fauconberg? Who was Hotspur, and how did he get his nickname? Who were the Beauforts, illegitimate desc...
