States, Actors and Geopolitical Drivers in the Mediterranean

Moving from a historical and cultural perspective, this book examines the geo-political and socio-economic changes involving the enlarged Mediterranean. Organised into two main sections, the first section (The new centrality of the Mediterranean Basin: Trends and Dynamics) is devoted to the analysis of the most relevant drivers and interdisciplinary broader issues, and the second section (Hotspots of Crisis and Regional Interferences in the Mediterranean) assesses the situation in some areas interested by the waves of uprisings since 2011-12. The book aims to uncover this new, critical centrality of the Mediterranean in the global scenario through the analysis of the interactions and intertwining of those trends and dynamics offering a historical holistic broad view. What follows is an Italian perspective that is the result of the research of a group of scholars who have been working for years on the first-hand sources of the countries examined. A peculiar vision connected not only to its unique geographical position at the center of the basin, but also to its deep relations with the southern shore throughout its long history.

"Beginning with Felicity Castagna's warning about the dangers of cultural labelling, this collection of essays takes resistance against conformity and uncritical consensus as one of its central themes. From Aleesha Paz's call to recognise the revolutionary act of public knitting, to Sheila Ngoc Pham on the importance of education in crossing social and ethnic boundaries, to May Ngo's cosmopolitan take on the significance of the shopping mall, the collection offers complex and humane insights into the dynamic relationships between class, culture, family, and love. Eda Gunaydin's 'Second City', from which this collection takes its title, is both a political autobiography and an elegy for a Par...

Introduction to Aircraft Flight Mechanics

"Introduction to Aircraft Flight Mechanics, Second Edition revises and expands this acclaimed, widely adopted textbook. Outstanding for use in undergraduate aeronautical engineering curricula, it is written for those first encountering the topic by clearly explaining the concepts and derivations of equations involved in aircraft flight mechanics. It begins with a review of basic aerodynamics and propulsion and continues through aircraft performance, equations of motion, static stability, linearizing equations of motion, dynamic stability, classical feedback control, stability and control augmentation, Bode, state space, and special topics. The second edition also features insights about the A-10 based upon the author's career experiences with this aircraft. Past winner of the AIAA Summerfield Book Award, this text contributes greatly to learning the fundamental principles of flight mechanics that are a crucial foundation of any aeronautical engineering curricula. It contains both real-world applications and problems. A solutions manual is available to instructors by contacting AIAA"--from back cover.
