Our current understanding of nature is in terms of matter that is acted on by forces. There are four fundamental forces, of which three are described by so-called gauge theories, a type of quantum field theory. The fourth force, gravity, is best described by general relativity, and our traditional ways of thinking about gauge theories and gravity look completely different from each other. In recent years, an exciting new correspondence called the 'double copy' has emerged, which suggests that the above theories may be much more closely related than previously thought. Inspired by previous work in string theory, it originated in the study of how particles interact, but has since been generalis...
This is the proceedings of the 6th International Symposium on History of Machines and Mechanisms that was held in Beijing, China, in September 2018. The Symposium provided an international forum for presenting and discussing historical developments in the field of Machine and Mechanism Science (MMS). Special sections focused on the following topics: . modern reviews of past works · engineers in history, and their works · direct memories of the recent past · the development of theories · the history of the design of machines and mechanisms · development of automation and robots · the development of teaching of MMS · the schools and institutes of mechanical engineering · the heritage of machines and mechanisms
War never changes. The rivalry between Pacific Trails Middle School and Carmel Valley Middle School hasn't either. With the new mango embargo on Carmel Valley imports, economic, political, and academic kingpin Yaj Jhajhria organizes his troops for war as he loses his patience with a rival's shenanigans. The result: an epic four-location campaign encompassing San Diego County, including Highway 56, Miramesa, Anza-Borrego State Park, and Downtown San Diego. Follow their epic journey as romances, betrayals, random facts, and obscure inside jokes fill their journey. Some excerpts by various Carmel Valley Middle School students are featured, their original work directed by director and plot constructor Yaj Jhajhria and enhanced and added to by Hans Yang, primary author and editor, sharing role of director with Yaj. It's been quite a year. Never Forget.

The 22 revised full papers and 7 revised poster papers presented together with the extended abstracts of 3 invited lectures were carefully reviewed and selected from 76 submissions. The papers cover various topics in the theory, implementation, and applications of automata and related structures.
The 4-quinolone antibacterial agents have been under development and in use for over 25 years, but despite an enormous body of research work there are still many basic questions that remain unanswered. For example, we do not know how these agents kill susceptible cells - or even how the drugs interact with the target mol- ecule(s). However, we do know that the 4-quinolones display many properties which are not shared with any other group of antibacterial agents. This book raises the unanswered questions and assesses the potential significance to future chemotherapy of their unique features. The book also raises matters which are significant for physicians as well as for the pharmaceutical industry and the assessment of these agents by legislative bodies concerned with drug safety.
