Paul: Christianity’s Premier Apostolic Mystic

Harvey Egan argues that the apostle Paul was Christianity's earliest mystic, and the world's greatest missionary, one whom scholars estimate walked over fifteen hundred miles--not to mention his dangerous sea journeys--to plant the flag of Lord Jesus in Roman colonies where Caesar was supposedly lord. This book stresses Paul's mystical consciousness and mystical life--the explicit and direct consciousness of the immediate and direct presence of the Trinity and/or Jesus-Messiah. It underscores mystical experience not only as discrete, individual experiences but also as experience in the sense that an experienced musician instinctively knows and loves music. From the light issuing from the risen Jesus-Messiah, whom he encountered on the Damascus road, Paul mystically read the Jewish Scriptures and comprehended that God consummated Israel's history through the sending of Jesus-Messiah and the Holy Spirit. Paul's letters are paradigmatic of the earliest use of the word "mystical," that is, how the Jewish Scriptures disclose Jesus-Messiah. Thus, Paul, the zealous Jewish Pharisee, grew to understand Christianity as Judaism perfected.

Irish Securities Law

  • Categories: Law

This new title is concerned with the securities law provisions in the Companies Act 2014 and derivative enactments, which are of most concern to listed companies and companies issuing equity and debt securities in Ireland. It deals comprehensively with the legal obligations to produce a prospectus or similar document, what is in it, what are the exceptions, what information must be made available to the markets and what are the other legal consequences on companies and dealers in shares and other securities as a result of having securities admitted to listing. Part A of the book gives an overview of the four key areas: Prospectus, Listing, Market Abuse and Transparency. It explains the structure of the law to enable non-experts to understand the law. Part B gives the legal and regulatory texts, which will be more of interest to lawyers and financiers in this area who need to be familiar with the primary law, which is not as yet readily accessible.

Iraq and Eleanor Egan's The War in the Cradle of the World

Chronicling the British military's invasion of Iraq in 1917, Eleanor Franklin Egan was an intrepid American journalist whose autobiographical account of her time spent amongst British officers describes the relationship between British and American forces in the Middle East during and just after World War I. Egan's account of military life and the actions taken by British officers to secure the British Empire's position in the Middle East is particularly striking, as readers begin to see the parallels between the early twentieth century British presence there and the current American presence in Iraq. This book should be read by all those interested in understanding the ways in which the modern Middle East has adapted as a result of invasion and imperialism. With a new critical introduction that explores the choices made by the United States that have led them to inherit the United Kingdom's position in the Gulf, Paul J. Rich offers an analysis of Egan's work that will allow contemporary readers to see that what is going on in Iraq now is nothing new.
