In Breaking the Bonds of Corruption, Elena Denisova-Schmidt investigates corrupt behavior in higher education, both in the Ukraine and internationally, as well as reliance on corruption in Ukrainian business. This is the first English-language book dedicated to examining corruption as a widespread social phenomenon in post-Soviet Ukraine.
Leading a Board
This book represents the first cross-country study of the work of board chairs in Europe. It includes unique data collected through interviews with almost 200 experienced board chairs and their key stakeholders – board members, CEOs and shareholders. The book focuses on what board leaders actually do, rather than what they should do, and elaborates on a conceptual contingency framework for understanding chairs’ work in Europe. This includes a comprehensive list of chair practices – iterative behaviour strategies for getting things done, comparisons of contexts for chairs’ work and practices among nine countries, and identification of cross-European and country-specific trends that will shape the work of board leaders in the next decade. The book will benefit incumbent and future chairs, directors, shareholders, CEOs, executives and regulators in developing a systemic understanding of the work of a chair in the European business context and gaining insights into how the leader of the board deals with specific challenges.

Die in Deutschland lebenden Russlanddeutschen werden von vielen einheimischen Deutschen oft irreführend als „Russen" bezeichnet. Ein Grund dafür ist, dass es an Wissen über diese Bevölkerungsgruppe, ihre Geschichte sowie ihre gegenwärtige Situation mangelt. Dieses Wissen fehlte auch in der Sowjetunion, aus der die meisten Russlanddeutschen stammen. Dort wurden sie „Faschisten" genannt. Wer sind eigentlich diese Menschen? Warum haben sie deutsche Nachnamen und sprechen dennoch mit russischem Akzent? Intelligent Internationalization
In 2015, Laura Rumbley put forward the notion that higher education—in a highly complex, globally interdependent world—would be wise to commit to an agenda of "intelligent internationalization" (I2). I2 turns on the notion that "the development of a thoughtful alliance between the research, practitioner, and policy communities," in tandem with key decision makers in leadership roles, is essential for institutions and systems of higher education seeking sustained relevance and vitality through their internationalization efforts. Does "intelligent internationalization" make sense? What is faulty, misguided, or missing from this analysis that could be strengthened through further consideration? On the other hand, what speaks to its value as an idea or agenda to advance the way that internationalization is understood and enacted in the world? These issues will be addressed in this book which builds on a 2018 Symposium on Intelligent Internationalization.
