Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a ground breaking medical technique which uses lasers to activate light-sensitive chemicals to treat cancer and other diseases without resorting to surgery. For the first time, Chemical Aspects of Photodynamic Therapy introduces in an accessible way the physics, chemistry and biology behind the technique. This highly authoritative account of the account of the rapidly developing field of PDT explores its chemical basis, while presenting information in its historical context. Haematoporphyrin derivative is considered in detail, together with the new 'second generation' photosensitisers , such as chlorins, bacteriochlorins and phthalocyanines. Photosensitisers whi...

Cevdet Erek: Bergama Stereotip

  • Categories: Art

A continuation and a variation of the work Bergama Stereo, which was first presented in Germany at Turbinenhalle as part of the Ruhrtriennale in Bochum and then in the historical hall of Hamburger Bahnhof Museum in Berlin in 2019, Cevdet Erek’s solo exhibition Bergama Stereotip consists of a sounding architecture conceived for the gallery space at Arter. Curated by Selen Ansen, Bergama Stereotip stands as a vestige featuring a portion of Bergama Stereo’s structure: a reminder of the Great Altar of Pergamon and a remainder of the work’s prior version. The book accompanying the exhibition features an essay by Colin Lang focusing on Bergama Stereo and Selen Ansen’s curatorial text on the exhibition at Arter. The book, designed by Vahit Tuna, brings together installation views taken by flufoto with photographs showing the historical remains of the Great Altar as well as its display in the Pergamonmuseum.

Hydrogen Bonding - New Insights

This book uses examples from experimental studies to illustrate theoretical investigations, allowing greater understanding of hydrogen bonding phenomena. The most important topics in recent studies are covered. This volume is an invaluable resource that will be of particular interest to physical and theoretical chemists, spectroscopists, crystallographers and those involved with chemical physics.

Coordination Chemistry of Macrocyclic Compounds

Chemists have been aware of the existence of coordination compounds con taining organic macrocyclic ligands since the first part of this century ; however, only during the past few years have they expanded research into the chemistry of these compounds. The expansion was initiated in the early 1960s by the synthesis and characterization of compounds containing some new macrocyclic ligands. The synthesis of compounds which may serve as model systems for some natural products containing large rings as ligands provided the main goal for the early expansion of research effort; indeed, a recurrent theme behind much of the reported chemistry has been the analogy between synthetic macrocyclic compo...
