Heidi

"God is good to all of us. He knows what we need better than we do. And just because he thinks it is better not to give you what you want right now doesn't mean he isn't answering you. You shall have what you ask for but not until the right time comes."― Johanna Spyri, Heidi Heidi is a children's fiction published in 1881 by Swiss author Johanna Spyri. It is a story about 5-year-old Heidi and her childhood. Heidi is an orphan who was initially raised by her maternal grandmother and aunt, Dete. Shortly after her grandmother's demise, Dete found a new job and can no longer care for Heidi. Dete took Heidi to the child's paternal grandfather up the mountain. Cornelli by Johanna Spyri, Translated by Elisabeth P.Stork

CORNELLI, A Story of the Swiss Alps Many writers have suffered injustice in being known as the author of but one book. Such has been the fate of Johanna Spyri, the Swiss authoress, whose reputation is mistakenly supposed to rest on her story of "Heidi." To be sure, "Heidi" is a book that in its field can hardly be overpraised. But the present story is possessed of a deeper treatment of character, combined with equal spirit and humor of a different kind. Cornelli, the heroine, suffers temporarily from the unjust suspicion of her elders, a misfortune which, it is to be feared, still occurs frequently in the case of sensitive children.

Johanna Louise Spyri (nee Heusser, 1827-1901) was a Swiss-born author of novels, notably children's stories, and is best known for her book Heidi. Born in Hirzel, a rural area in the canton of Zurich, as a child she spent several summers near Chur in Graubunden, the setting she would later use in her novels. After her marriage to Bernhard Spyri, a lawyer, she lived in Zurich and began to write about life in the country. Her first story was published in 1880, soon to be followed by others for both adults and children, including Heidi (1881). Written in four weeks, Heidi tells the story of an orphan girl who lives with her grandfather in the Swiss Alps and it is famous for its vivid portrayal of the landscape. After the death of Spyri's husband and only child in 1884 she devoted herself to charitable causes and wrote over 50 more stories before her death in 1901. Vinzi, subtitled A Story of the Swiss Alps, was first published in 1892 and is reprinted from the American J B Lippincott edition of 1923, translated by Elisabeth P Stork and with 8 full-page illustrations by Maria L Kirk reproduced in black and white.

StorkWith an introduction By Charles Wharton StorkHeidi is a work of children's fiction published in 1881 by Swiss author Johanna Spyri, originally published in two parts as Heidi: her years of wandering and learning.Unassuming in plot and style, "Heidi" may none the less lay claim to rank as a world classic.
