Focusing on the practical application of feminist theory to clinical experience, Introduction to Feminist Therapy provides guidelines to help therapists master social action and empowerment techniques, feminist diagnostic and assessment strategies, and gender-role and power analyses to foster individual and social change. This guide is ideal for graduate students enrolled in a techniques of counseling course and practitioners who wish to incorporate feminist therapy into their current approach, including how to apply feminist therapy to both women and men and how to deal with the gender issues of both sexes. Client/Therapist dialogues provide readers with examples of how each technique actually works in a therapeutic session. The text also provides case studies, coverage of ethical issues, and feminist assessment guidelines that show readers how to conduct a feminist assessment with and without using the DSM-IV-TR.

In the hollows of Lewis County, Tennessee, Mormon missionaries baptized nearly fifty members of a large extended family. But their initial success was marred by false accusations of salacious behavior. A few influential citizens were disturbed by the rumors and by the missionaries' apparent popularity. On August 10th 1884, tensions erupted into violence and bloodshed. Two of the Utah missionaries, two young Tennessean converts, and one vigilante were shot dead. At least one other member of the congregation was wounded and never fully recovered. Much has been written about the two missionaries killed, but the real story is much deeper. Step into the lives of these proud Tennesseans, the earnest converts, the fearsome gunmen, and those stuck in between. See how their families intertwined in the years before and after the shooting. Its a snapshot of post-bellum rural Tennessee you won't soon forget.

Scripting Addiction

Scripting Addiction takes readers into the highly ritualized world of mainstream American addiction treatment. The book explores the puzzling question: why do addiction counselors dedicate themselves to reconciling drug users' relationship to language in order to reconfigure their relationship to drugs? To answer this question, anthropologist Summerson Carr traces the charged interactions between counselors, clients, and case managers at "Fres...

The claims for bounty land were made through the Executive or Council. Certificates of heirship, wills and powers of attorney were so "annexed" to the certificate of allowance that they were "retained on file in the office of the Council." Such papers eventually were placed on file in the Archives Department of the State Library. Wherever the vouchers in the Land Office failed to impart much genealogical detail, I have endeavored to find something among the papers in the Archive Department.
