With a focus on letters, diaries, archival photographs, and memoirs as well as morerecent theatre and performance criticism, this volume examines the way that the women who contributed to these roles have been written out of the history of the creation of these texts. Thinking about theplays as created in part by the actresses reveals new readings of the major texts of the Abbey Theatre. Plays that have been historically attributed to Yeats and Synge have complicated histories that demand re-examination of authorship.
