This is the first volume of the Proceedings of The Migration Conference 2020. The Migration Conference 2020 was held online due to COVID-19 Pandemic and yet, in over 80 parallel sessions and plenaries key migration debates saw nearly 500 experts from around the world engaging. This collection contains contributions mainly dealing with migration and integration debates. These are only a subset of all presentations from authors who chose to submit full short papers for publication after the conference. Most of the contributions are work in progress and unedited versions. The next migration conference is going to be hosted by Ming-Ai Institute in London, UK. The Migration Conference Abstracts Book
The Migration Conference is the largest international annual academic event on migration with a global scope and participation. Participants of the TMC2022 Rabat have come from all around the world presenting and discussing migration. Researchers from over 70 countries have presented their work at the Conference. The conference entertained 3 plenary sessions, 6 panel discussions, 4 workshops, and 1 movie screening over four days. 8 sessions were held in French and Arabic, while 6 sessions in Spanish and 3 sessions were in Turkish. The topics covered in the conference included integration, acculturation, migration policy and law, labour markets, theory and methods in migration studies, culture, communication, climate change, conflicts, insecurities, media, gender, remittances, high skilled migration and several other key topics. Transnational Law of Human Mobility
This book employs methods from comparative law to analyze voluntary migration, exploring the free movement of immigrants and their freedom of settlement under Brazilian and Mercosul law, as well as under German law and the European Union’s legal framework on migration. It discusses the level of protection granted to immigrants in terms of their right to enter and stay in Brazil and Mercosul, using German legislation and the EU’s legal framework on migration for comparison. Accordingly, the book will help migration researchers to understand not only the structure and rationale of migration law in Brazil, especially after the entry into force of its recent Migration Law in 2017, but also its relation to EU and German provisions on voluntary migration. It demonstrates how the differing natures of the migration law adopted by Brazil and Germany have led to different approaches and, consequently, different levels of protection for immigrants.
