Black Lives in the English Archives, 1500-1677
Containing an urgently needed archival database of historical evidence, this volume includes both a consolidated presentation of the documentary records of black people in Tudor and Stuart England, and an interpretive narrative that confirms and significantly extends the insights of current theoretical excursus on race in early modern England. The systematic, chronological descriptive index combined with the interpretive scholarship provides a strong framework from which future historical debates on race in early modern England can proceed.

A Reference Guide for English Studies
This ambitious undertaking is designed to acquaint students, teachers, and researchers with reference sources in any branch of English studies, which Marcuse defines as "all those subjects and lines of critical and scholarly inquiry presently pursued by members of university departments of English language and literature.'' Within each of 24 major sections, Marcuse lists and annotates bibliographies, guides, reviews of research, encyclopedias, dictionaries, journals, and reference histories. The annotations and various indexes are models of clarity and usefulness, and cross references are liberally supplied where appropriate. Although cost-conscious librarians will probably consider the several other excellent literary bibliographies in print, such as James L. Harner's Literary Research Guide (Modern Language Assn. of America, 1989), larger academic libraries will want Marcuse's volume.-- Jack Bales, Mary Washington Coll. Discrete Geometry and Topology
This collection of papers honors the 100th anniversary of the birth of Boris Nikolaevich Delone, whose mathematical interests centered on the geometry of positive quadratic forms. After an initial paper presenting an account of Delone's life, including his scientific work, the book centers on discrete geometry and combinatorics. The book presents new methods that permit a description of the structure of some $L$-bodies and $L$-partitionings and that, in many cases, provide a definitive description. Also studied are combinatorial-topological problems arising in the statistical Ising model, the disposition of finite point sets in convex bodies of high dimension under certain conditions, and investigations of regular partitionings of spaces of constant curvature.
Differential Equations and Function Spaces
This commemorative volume honours the memory of S. L. Sobolev by presenting eighteen papers reflecting the area of Sobolev's main contributions: applications of functional analysis to differential equations. The papers examine various problems in the theory of partial differential equations (linear and non-linear) and the theory of differentiable functions of several real variables. Applications to problems of mathematical physics and approximate methods of conformal mapping are also treated.
Operator Theory with a Random Potential, and Some Questions of Statistical Physics
This collection is devoted to problems of operator theory with a random potential and a number of problems of statistical physics. For the Schrodinger operator with a potential randomly depending on time, mean wave operators, and the mean scattering operator are computed, and it is shown that the averaged dynamics behaves like free dynamics in the limit of infinite time. Results of applying the method of functional integration to some problems of statistical physics are presented: the theory of systems with model Hamiltonians and their dynamics, ferromagnetic systems of spin 1/2, Coulomb and quantum crystals. This collection is intended for specialists in spectral theory and statistical physics.
