These are the proceedings of a meeting in honour of Massimo Capaccioli at the occasion of his 70th birthday. The conference aimed at summarizing the results from the main current and past digital sky survey projects and at discussing how these can be used to inspire ongoing projects and better plan the future ones. Over the last decades, digital sky surveys performed with dedicated telescopes and finely-tuned wide-field cameras, have revolutionized astronomy. They have become the main tool to investigate the nearby and far away universe, thus providing new insights in the understanding of the galaxy structure and assembly across time, the dark components of the universe, as well as the histo...
Annotation Proceedings of a meeting sponsored by the Vatican Observatory and held at Pontifical Gregorian U., Rome, in June 2000. Topics include the stellar and gaseous disk of the Milky Way; the global characteristics of galaxy disks; their structure, morphology, and dynamics; the gaseous components, star formation, and chemical evolution; the interactions, accretions, mergers, and starbursts; the dark and luminous matter; the establishment of the scaling laws; and the formation and evolution of disk galaxies from theoretical and observational points of view. The nonprofit Astronomical Society of the Pacific (ASP) publishes the Conference Series Proceedings as part of its century-old mission to provide resources for astronomers and advance the science of astronomy. Since 1988, the ASP has published the proceedings of astronomical workshops, meetings, colloquia, and symposia to meet the community's demand for affordable, high-quality volumes on current topics in the rapidly expanding fields of astronomy and astrophysics. Since 1998, the Society has also served as publisher for the International Astronomical Union (IAU), adding their Symposia, Highlights, and Transactions to our growing list of publications. For most rapid delivery of each volume, w...
The tenth reference volume in a planned series of 15, devoted to an index of Italian immigrants arriving in the US from 1880-1899. It presents passenger lists in chronological order and detailed information on each person and their origins. Each volume also carries a full name index.
