Basic Concepts in Nuclear Physics: Theory, Experiments and Applications
This book features material presented at the La Rábida 2018 International Scientific Meeting on Nuclear Physics, which was based on a well-known series of triennial international summer schools on Nuclear Physics organized from 1982 to 2003 by the Basic Nuclear Physics group at the University of Seville and latter, from 2009 to 2018, by the University of Seville and the University of Huelva. The meeting offered graduate students and young researchers a broad overview of the field of nuclear physics. The book includes contributions from invited speakers on topics such as a state-of-the-art nuclear shell model and selected aspects of mass spectroscopy. Other chapters present an introduction to shell model, a review of experimental nuclear reactions, a discussion of the theory of nuclear reactions and an overview of nuclear medicine. Further, the posters and seminars presented by students offer fresh perspectives on various problems current in nuclear physics.

A 3ª Semana de Ensino, Pesquisa, Extensão e Cultura (Sepec) da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco reuniu o 5º Encontro de Extensão e Cultura (Enexc), o 2º Programa de Educação Tutorial (PET) e o 2º Encontro UFPE no Meu Quintal, e foi cenário para o compartilhamento de pesquisas, práticas, projetos e experiências, além de representar, também, uma oportunidade de honrar o compromisso institucional de dar aos/às estudantes de graduação da UFPE uma formação integral e transversal. Assim, a presente publicação consolida, em formato de anais, os resumos dos trabalhos científicos submetidos, aprovados e apresentados na forma de comunicações orais pelos/pelas estudantes e seus/suas orientadores/as, resultantes de projetos de ensino, extensão e cultura desenvolvidos em 2018 e 2019. Os trabalhos aqui reunidos e toda sua diversidade de temas, para além de sua relevância científica, são, de fato, frutos de uma formação cidadã que proporciona e estimula a troca e o diálogo dos saberes, sobretudo, visando à criação de uma sociedade mais igualitária e desenvolvida.

Arterial Chemoreception
Arterial chemoreceptors are unique structures which continuously monitor changes in arterial blood oxygen, carbon dioxide, glucose, and acid. Organizada pelo historiador Jaime Benchimol e pela bióloga e historiadora da ciência Magali Romero Sá, é uma homenagem ao pesquisador e à sua trajetória. Adolpho Lutz foi o precursor das modernas campanhas sanitárias e dos estudos epidemiológicos envolvendo, sobretudo, o cólera, a febre tifóide, a peste bubônica e a febre amarela. Os quatro primeiros volumes da obra - que consistirá, quando completa, numa coleção de 21 livros acondicionados em cinco caixas - trazem: Primeiros Trabalhos: Alemanha, Suíça e Brasil (1878-1885); Hanseníase; Dermatologia e Micologia e ainda um suplemento contendo sumário, glossário e índices. Neles, os organizadores recuperaram o arquivo pessoal do cientista e de sua filha, a bióloga Bertha Lutz.
