This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 13th European Conference on Research and Advanced Technology for Digital Libraries, ECDL 2009, held in Corfu, Greece, in September/October 2009. The 28 revised full papers and 6 revised short papers presented together with 2 panel description, the extended abstracts of 20 revised poster and 16 demo papers were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 181 submissions. Intergovernmental Relations in Divided Societies
This edited volume examines the form and operation of intergovernmental relations in divided societies. Using eight country case studies, it explores the interplay between politicised ethno-cultural diversity and intergovernmental relations (IGR) in countries where the distinctive identity of at least one subnational unit is acknowledged in a form of territorial autonomy. Despite the contributions language centres across the globe have made to language education and higher education in general, few publications have a specific focus on research work produced by language centre faculty. The purpose of this reviewed, edited volume entitled Tertiary education language learning: a collection of research, consisting of eight chapters, is to fill some of this gap by giving insights into the type of research conducted in various fields of applied linguistics in a university language centre context. This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the International Conference on Theory and Practice of Digital Libraries, TPDL 2013 (formerly European Conference on Research and Advanced Technology for Digital Libraries, ECDL) held in Valletta, Malta, in September 2013. The 24 full papers, 13 short papers, 22 posters and 8 demonstrations presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 158 submissions. The papers cover a wide range of research topics, clustered in four broader areas: foundation, infrastructures, content, and services. Power-Sharing in Europe
This book evaluates the performance of consociational power-sharing arrangements in Europe. Under what conditions do consociational arrangements come in and out of being? How do consociational arrangements work in practice? The volume assesses how consociationalism is adopted, how it functions, and how it reforms or ends. Chapters cover early adopters of consociationalism, including both those which moved on to other institutional designs (the Netherlands, Austria) as well as those that continue to use consociational processes to manage their differences (Belgium, Switzerland, South Tyrol). Also analysed are ‘new wave’ cases where consociationalism was adopted after violent internal conflict (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Northern Ireland) and cases of unresolved conflict where consociationalism may yet help mediate ongoing divisions (Cyprus, Spain).
