Sugar Cane Cultivation and Management
This volume is intended for reference by the commercial sugar cane grower. Disciplines are covered for the successful production of a sugar cane crop. A number of good books exist on field practices related to the growing of sugar cane. Two examples are R.P. Humbert's The Growing of Sugar Cane and Alex G. Alexander's Sugarcane Physiology. Volumes of technical papers, produced regularly by the International Society of Sugar Cane Technologists, are also a source of reference. Perhaps foremost, local associations, such as the South African Sugar Technologists' Association, do excellent work in this regard. In my forty-five years of experience with the day-to-day problems of producing a satisfactory crop of sugar cane, deciding what should be done to produce such a crop was not straightforward. Although the literature dealing with specific subjects is extensive, I tried to consolidate some of the material to provide the man in the field with information, or an overview of the subject matter.
Future Multimedia Networking
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed proceedings of the Future Multimedia Networking Workshop, FMN 2009, held in Coimbra, Portugal, in June 2009. This year`s workshop focuses on various aspects of multimedia systems, content networking, and autonomous communication. The 16 revised papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 64 submissions. Further this year a demonstration session on Future Multimedia Networks was held from which 12 papers were accepted. The papers are organized in topical sections on streaming and voice services in future multimedia networks; wireless & ad hoc networks in autonomic content networking ; group and multiparty services in autonomic content networking, as well as quality in video and internet services.
Modelling Autonomic Communications Environments
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Third IEEE International Workshop on Modelling Autonomic Communications Environments, MACE 2008, held on Samos Island, Greece, on September 22-26, 2008, as part of the 4th International Week on Management of Networks and Services, Manweek 2008. The 8 revised full papers and 4 revised short papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 22 submissions. Renaissance? Perceptions of Continuity and Discontinuity in Europe, c.1300- c.1550
At least since the publication of Burckhardt’s seminal study, the Renaissance has commonly been understood in terms of discontinuities. Seen as a radical departure from the intellectual and cultural norms of the ‘Middle Ages’, it has often been associated with the revival of classical Antiquity and the transformation of the arts, and has been viewed primarily as an Italian phenomenon.
