Falar em Pensamento Social no Brasil hoje tem impelido pesquisadores a expandir os limites teóricos e metodológicos da sociologia na busca de uma abordagem mais pormenorizada do trabalho intelectual, artístico, da militância cultural e da chamada arte engajada.
